Renee was born in Johannesburg in 1961. Despite practising as lawyer for 20 years and engaging in part time art study, she regards herself as first and foremost an artist.

In 2005 Renee decided to devote more time to her art and enrolled at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Joy Edmonds, photographer and respected U.K. based artist introduced Renee to salt photography whilst working on a research project in South Africa.

Renee is also a print maker (silkscreen, intaglio and relief printing). The tactile process of hand making a photograph with unique qualities is what makes the medium of salt photography appealing to her.

Renee is in the process of completing her MAFA degree at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her research topic relates to the appropriation of images by artists and copyright law.
